Visitation of Liaison Office of South Africa at Tunghai for Academic Collaboration

 On April 29, 2021, the delegation of Liaison Office of South Africa—Representative Mr. Robert Seraki Matsebe and Specialist Ms. Cissy Chiu—visited Tunghai University along with the representatives of Taiwan-Africa Business Association, the Chairman, Mr. Jeff Sun, Vice-Chairman, Mr. Hank Hsieh, Vice-Chairman, and Deputy Secretary General, Ms. Vicky Chung.



Representative Mr. Seraki Matsebe delivered the speech.

President Mao-Jiun Wang welcomed the delegation along with Chair of Foreign Languages and Literature, Dr. Henk Vynckier, Associate Professor at the English Language Center, Dr. Jung-Han Chen, Lecturer at the English Language Center, Mr. Jonathan Hayes, International Chief of Office of International Relations, Dr. Annie Y. Tsai and Director of International Student Affairs Section, OIR, Dr. Chih-Yun Wu. Mr. Jonathan Hayes, as the alumni and the lecturer, shared his experiences of his study and career at Tunghai.

Representative Seraki Matsebe gave an introduction on South Africa. He emphasized that there are around 30 universities in South Africa; he expects that the cooperation with Taiwanese universities will increase the collaboration and cultivate more talents. Besides, Christianity is an important religion in South Africa. With the same faith, Representative Seraki Matsebe anticipates that there will be diverse collaborative opportunities.



College of Management and International College introduced English-taught programs.

In the discussion, President Mao-Jiun Wang initiated the proposals for the collaboration with South Africa, including international student mobility and undergraduate study at Tunghai. With the discussion between the delegaties and Tunghai representatives, it is expected that collaborations will be established soon.

The delegation also visited International College and College of Management They also joined one of the courses with Dr. James Sims, Dean of International College, Dr. Yu-Fen Fu, Chairperson of Global Master of Business Administration, and Dr. Chen-Jiu Huang, Deputy International Chief, Office of International Relations. Though communication and discussions, the delegation received more information about the English-taught programs at Tunghai University.

The visitation of the Liaison Office of South Africa is a start of the cooperation with South African universities. Tunghai University wishes to strengthen the academic connection and to enhance international mobility and academic cooperation by bringing benefits to both sides.
