Jia-Qian

I'm Jia-Qian, a sophomore in the Department of Chemistry and also the current Vice President of the Chemistry Department Student Association.
Initially, I was recommended to Donghai University's Chemistry program through the star-based system. Chemistry wasn't actually my intended direction at first, but after coming here, the professors' dedicated teaching and their use of various methods to make the subject lively and interesting changed my perspective.
I really enjoy the lab sessions in our department because they are directly instructed by professors, so any questions that arise during experiments can be addressed immediately.
In university, you'll need to organize your daily schedule by yourself. There won't be mentors constantly reminding you what to do; everything is up to you. But this also means you'll have many opportunities to try things you wouldn't normally encounter.
In my experience with the department's student association this semester, I've learned skills and experiences that textbooks can't provide. I've learned teamwork and made partners whom I can collaborate with.
During my freshman year, I got involved in the student union. Through participation in these student-led organizations, I've met people from different departments and learned many experiences I wouldn't have encountered otherwise.
University life, without a doubt, is likely to be your first independent stage in life. I wish you all the best in this stage, where you can explore what you love, learn to organize your life, and encounter different people and things.
Best wishes and good luck with everything!

Bing-Syuan Wu

I am Bing-Syuan Wu, a graduate of the Chemistry Department's Chemistry program at Tunghai University, currently pursuing a master's degree at Tunghai. The training and cultivation I received during my four years at Tunghai in the field of chemistry were solid. In addition to studying classic courses such as organic, inorganic, analytical, and physical chemistry, the Chemistry Department also offers many elective courses, such as organic materials chemistry, surface chemistry, and medicinal chemistry. In compulsory courses, the teachers are enthusiastic and treat each student seriously, while the rich elective courses provide students who wish to pursue different directions with opportunities for improvement. Among them, I particularly enjoyed Professor Min-Chieh Chuang's instrument analysis course. Professor Chuang's course is humorous and dynamic. When I encountered some problems with high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and mass spectrometry in my master's program, I rediscovered the answers in my notes from this classes, which made me both happy and regretful for not absorbing the content more seriously at the time. In addition, different from other university where experiments are led by master's or doctoral students, at Tunghai, professional faculty guide us step by step to become experts in chemistry experiments.

In our Chemistry Department, many teachers not only ensure teaching quality but also have very fruitful research results. In my sophomore year, I joined Professor Cheng-Che Tsai's laboratory for a research project in the field of organic asymmetric catalysis. Day after day of experiments gradually piqued my interest in chemistry. In my senior year, I chose to continue my studies in the Chemistry Department at Tunghai, pursuing a master's degree under Professor Tsai's guidance through the five-year integrated program, and our results have been published in international journals.

In my four years at Tunghai's Chemistry Department, I have learned a lot, and I believe this place provides all the resources a chemist needs. I am grateful to every teacher and every student for creating an environment conducive to growth.

Ting-Hui Lin

I am Ting-Hui Lin, a senior student majoring in Biology within the Chemistry Department at Donghai University. I'd like to share my motivation for choosing this department and why I recommend it.

Initially, I chose this department because I have a strong interest in biology and pharmaceuticals. However, I was also concerned that focusing solely on life sciences might be too narrow, so I opted for the Chemistry Department, which offers broader career options. Later, I discovered that Donghai's Chemistry Department offers two professional tracks: Chemistry and Biology. Therefore, I chose the Chemistry track, allowing me to study both chemistry and biology, fulfilling my diverse academic pursuits.

During my studies, I found that this department not only has professors from various professional fields who teach us specialized subjects but also provides excellent laboratory equipment, allowing each of us to personally conduct experiments during lab sessions, rather than just learning from textbooks. Moreover, the department has professors from various fields, and if one is interested in a particular area, they can join the professor's lab and conduct research in that field.

I joined Professor Yu-Shan Wu's laboratory for a research project. The difference between a research project and regular lab sessions lies in the fact that while lab sessions mainly train experimental techniques, research projects require us to organize a complete experiment ourselves. We also have the opportunity to operate more instruments that we haven't seen in regular lab sessions, forcing us to actively learn more related knowledge. This not only enhances my research abilities but also allows me to apply the knowledge I have learned in practice.

Of course, I encountered difficulties in the experimental process and design. However, with experienced professors from various fields in the department, I could easily exchange ideas and seek help, which gave me valuable advice and guidance, helping me overcome difficulties and successfully complete my research project.

Furthermore, the department provides a lot of assistance, such as scholarships and work-study opportunities. If you have doubts about your career planning, the professors are also willing to provide advice. The department also offers a five-year integrated program supporting students with scholarships, meaning you can obtain both a bachelor's and master's degree in five years. I believe this policy is an efficient and good investment for students. In such an academic environment, not only have I improved my professional abilities, but I have also deepened my understanding of the field of chemistry, further solidifying my recommendation for Donghai University's Chemistry Department.

If you are interested in both chemistry and biology, and enjoy hands-on experimentation, I sincerely recommend the Chemistry Department at Donghai University. Here, you will not only have access to abundant academic resources but also various opportunities to learn in different fields, making you a person with diverse academic knowledge.
